A brief description about

dl apparel

Growing up in Sebokeng, our style was inspired by Hip-Hop and street culture in general. At this time, a 21yr old Chemical Engineering student decided to concept a streetwear called "Digital-Life". DL is the first two letters of Ewald's surname (DLamini). With the demand from the public point of view, we gained confindence and have never looked back since..

forging a strategic partnership with the

music industry

The company has strategic alliances with Music Records and the Entertainment Group. These alliances are valuable to New Look because they provide the needed exposure for its line and the association of its products with celebrities. Celebrities are valuable assets because they receive free clothing for interviews, concerts, and music videos.

how the journey began?

Ewald's sister "Gift M. Dlamini" recently INTERVIEWED her brother

fashion influence

GM: How did you become exposed to hip-hop - elements that influenced your fashion?
EV: You already know, I grew up in the early 1980's where bubble-gum music was the
the thing during apartheid era. Later-on (early 90's), Hip-Hop became a new teacher -
and the rest is history.

medical doctor career

GM: You wanted to pursue a medical career at a University, what happened?
EV: I went to Wits University in Johannesburg and was told to begin at their
Pre-University for 1year before starting with a course in-question. I had a
different programme in mind after I was told that "breaking statement".

uniqueness

GM: What sets you apart from your competitors in the country?
EV: My academic background is the pillar of my strength, from Chemical Engineering
to Media Design, to TV & Film Production. I know how to apply art and illustration
and give a context to core fashion foundation pieces and release that energy.

challenge(s) in fashion

GM: What is the hardest part of getting off the ground?
EV: Learning to be independent under rude circumstances. People that we thought
might land a helpful hand where nowhere to be found. Penetrating the fashion market
is another story. But we are here to make a statement, and still standing.

company mascot

GM: Your DL parent company mascot is an artist Ape. How did that come about?
EV: I'm a left-handed person, and Apes are associated with such individuals.
So back in the 80's at pre-school, I was laughed at for using that hand - until later on
when I decided to convert that negative energy to something positive, and wa-laaa.

future designs/plans

GM: What can we expect from your Clothing Co. in the future?
EV: We're going to introducee a new creation of style by introducing young and
enthusiastic designers from all facets of creativity. From fashion to graphic artist
to performing acts (recording artists) and further promote the family brand.
